If
you are coming to the islands by air, you can fly from Aberdeen,
Inverness, Glasgow or Edinburgh direct to Stornoway, varying from
1-4 flights daily depending on provider. Loganair
fly from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. Eastern
Airways provide a Monday - Saturday daily return service from
Aberdeen and Highland
Airways also provide a Monday - Saturday daily return service
from Inverness.
If
you wish to take your car or want to see more of the scenery on
your journey, then a Calmac ferry is your alternative. Ferries connect
the islands to the rest of Scotland via 3 mainland ports. These
are Ullapool-Stornoway; Uig (Skye)-Tarbert (Harris) & Lochmaddy
(North Uist); Oban - Castlebay (Barra) & Lochboisdale (South
Uist). Journey times vary from 1 hour 40 minutes to 7 hours. There
are inter-connecting ferries enabling ease of travel throughout
